SOCLEMA is involved in the pilot phase of the TULIPE project to convert B gas to H gas in the Grande Synthe - Dunkerque (59) area.
\nIt is contributing its sampling and injection expertise to the network adaptation work, and will supply equipment for the Brouckerqueanalysis andinjection stations.

The Hauts-de-France region is mainly supplied with \"B gas\" from the Netherlands, in particular from the Groningen field, which is now at the end of its life.
\nB gas accounts for around 10% of total French consumption and 1.3 million customers. The associated supply contracts will not be renewed, and imports of B gas into France will cease in 2029. By then, all transmission and distribution networks will have to be converted to carry H gas, which has a higher calorific value.
\nThis is the aim of the TULIPE project to convert B gas to H gas.
\nThe conversion of the current B-gas consumption zone to H-gas is based on a division of the B-gas transmission and distribution networks into some twenty geographical sectors. The change in the type of gas delivered will be carried out independently and successively in each sector, enabling a gradual conversion up to 2029 at the latest.

The composition of natural gas varies according to its origin, and influences its energy content: the higher the nitrogen content of natural gas, the lower its calorific value.
\n- B\" gas (low calorific value), mainly from Groningen, contains a higher nitrogen content.
\n- H\" gas (high calorific value), from the North Sea, Russia and Algeria, supplies the rest of the country.
The project is essential to ensure continuity of supply for B gas consumers. It will go further by improving the security of gas supply to this part of the network, which is currently supplied by a single entry point and a single source of supply at Taisnières. The project will create new connections with the rest of the transmission network and provide access to diversified sources of H-gas.
\nThe project will also improve transport efficiency. As the energy content of H-gas is higher than that of L-gas, the volumes of gas to be transported will be lower for the same end use. Energy consumption associated with transport on this part of the network should therefore be reduced.
