Continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) are used as a tool to monitor flue gases resulting from combustion in industrial processes, (boilers, turbines, engines, furnaces, incinerators...). CEMS can monitor components such as CO, CO₂, NOx, N₂O, SO₂, NH₃, HCl, CH₄, O₂, H₂O.

The standard CEM system consists of a sampling probe, a filter, a sampling line, a gas conditioning system, a calibration gas system and a series of gas analyzers that reflect the monitored parameters.

CEMS applications are specific in that the flue gas is very humid and hot. Temperatures must be maintained above the dew point during sample extraction and during sample transport to the analysis cabinet.
